Being Captive to Sin - 9/5/18

From Elder Danny Rogers:

To be captive means to be enslaved or dominated, to be incarcerated or be a prisoner. It means a complete lack of freedom. Paul said that being a carnal being with fleshly desires made him captive to the law of sin. "But I see another law in my members, warring against the law if my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members." Romans 7:23 NKJV. To free ourselves from the captivity of sin, we must make our thoughts and actions captive to the obedience of Christ. Again, Paul wrote, "casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into the captivity to the obedience of Christ." 2 Corinthians 10:5 NKJV. Only through being in Christ and abstaining from fleshly lusts can we escape the captivity of sin. "There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit." Romans 8:1 NKJV
